Lees Wreck

The Lees Wreck, or Empire Tana, was a Liberty ship but also acted as part of the World War II Mulberry harbour.  It was brought into Strangford Lough to be scrapped, but struck a reef in Ballyhenry Bay and has since broken into two large pieces.  These are known as Inner and Outer Lees. They both break the surface at low tide and sit in around l0 m of water. Once famous for tame conger eels, they are teeming with life resembling "a garden full of colour". It is carpeted from bow to stern inside and out with a huge variety of marine life. It is one of the favourite dives in Northern Ireland.
